About the Event

Heatwaves, droughts, floods, wildfires — climate impacts are intensifying, and insurance systems worldwide are struggling to keep pace. As losses rise and coverage shrinks, are we approaching a world where entire regions and sectors become uninsurable?

Insurance is a cornerstone of today’s prosperity. It enables economic actors to transfer risk, protects individuals and businesses from financial uncertainty, supports faster and fairer recovery and enables investment. Climate change and nature loss are rapidly eroding the foundations of global insurance markets, driving up economic losses from extreme weather events and widening the “insurance protection gap”, the share of damages left uninsured. The resulting financial exposure threatens not only households and businesses but also public finance budgets and a stable economy.

Join us to get highlight on the risk resulting from the widening protection gaps for households and businesses in vulnerable locations, as well as its broader economic consequences ; discuss measures that governments, insurances, regulators can take in a collaborative and holistic way to tackle the issue, and discover tools levers how to work with ecosystems and NbS for adaptation and resilience .
