Blue Finance: Unlocking the Investment Potential of Our Oceans

Join us in November 2025 for a dynamic and forward-looking panel discussion that explores the powerful intersection of ocean conservation and sustainable finance. The ocean economy, or "blue economy", is poised to become one of the most dynamic investment frontiers of the 21st century. According to the OECD, the ocean economy is projected to reach USD 3 trillion by 2030, offering vast opportunities across sectors including renewable energy, sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, shipping, biotechnology, and coastal resilience infrastructure.

Despite covering more than 70% of the planet and generating over half of the world’s oxygen, oceans have long been overlooked in mainstream financial discourse. That is now changing. As marine ecosystems face mounting threats from pollution, overfishing, climate change, and biodiversity loss, innovative finance mechanisms are emerging to channel capital into ocean-positive solutions. From blue bonds and sustainable aquaculture to coral reef restoration and maritime technology, the ocean economy is teeming with opportunities for both environmental regeneration and financial return.

As the climate crisis intensifies and natural resources dwindle, oceans are being revalued not just as ecosystems to protect, but as economic assets to invest in responsibly. This shift is opening the door to a wave of Blue Finance instruments such as Blue Bonds, Sustainable Aquaculture & Fisheries, Offshore Renewable Energy, Blue Carbon Projects, Ocean Tech & Data.

We’re honored to welcome a distinguished panel of global experts driving this movement:

Veronica Baker, Swiss Sustainable Finance: championing impact-driven finance and nature integration.

Mona Huys, Impact Investment Specialist at Mercer: advancing ocean-positive investment strategies.

Alexia Semov, Head of Blue Carbon at Fair Carbon: leading blue carbon innovation and restoration finance.

Willem Visser, T. Rowe Price: bringing global credit market insights into sustainable fixed income investing.

Switzerland may be landlocked, but its financial and consumer behavior impacts the ocean in real and measurable ways. Whether through investment choices, supply chain practices, or policy advocacy, stakeholders far from the coasts can and must play a role in protecting our blue planet.

What to Expect:

  • Insights from leading international experts in marine conservation, impact investing, and sustainable finance

  • Real-world examples of Blue finance in action, including case studies from emerging markets and global institutions

  • A deep dive into financial instruments and strategies that align ocean health with long-term investor value

  • Dialogue on the ethical and systemic responsibilities of financial institutions in shaping a sustainable ocean economy

  • Networking opportunities with investors, policymakers, scientists, and innovators driving the blue finance movement

Whether you are a seasoned investor, sustainability advocate, or simply curious about the future of ocean finance, this event offers a unique opportunity to engage with a growing field that merges profit with purpose on a planetary scale.
